Objectifying Gazes

In a recent study, female and male participants looked at photos of women with various breast sizes and waist-to-hip ratios. When the researchers tracked the participants’ gazes and asked them to evaluate the women’s appearance, lo and behold, the female participants were just as guilty as the males of letting their eyes linger on the chest and waist—especially when the women pictured had hourglass figures. The good news: When the participants were asked to evaluate the photo-women on personality, they looked at faces first.
