Researchers evaluated 230 law students over the course of the four-month as they awaited their California bar exam results. Participants filled out a questionnaire prior to taking the test, two weeks into the waiting period and after learning the verdict. They found that people who suffered from anxiety and had a more pessimistic perspective while waiting for the big news were much happier when they received positive feedback and less disappointed when the news was negative. So, maybe the “smile, the worst is yet to come” mentality isn’t all that bad.
