Sweeteners and Sugar Are Equally Sweet

If you’ve heard that low- and no-calorie sweeteners taste saccharine compared with real sugar, well—it’s a myth. Recent research did show that it takes a lower concentration of these sugar substitutes for participants to notice the flavor, but the intensity of sweetness is the same no matter whether it’s aspartame or a “nutritive” sweetener like sugar, maple syrup, or agave nectar.
