We Eat What We Can Reach

Easy access to snacks will cause you to eat more on Halloween.

Make sure that bowl of Halloween candy is out of sight. Why? People are more likely to snack on food that they can see, especially if it’s within easy reach. In one study, women ate more chocolate when it was in clear bowl within reach, and less when it was opaque and placed out of reach. If that bowl has to stay in sight, fill it with carrot sticks and hummus instead. Carotenoids in carrots keep skin young, as opposed to added sugar, which ages skin. (Now set aside your favorite treat to mindfully indulge in tonight!) Happy Halloween!
