Your Doctor’s Weight Can Impact Your Own

Overweight doctors are more likely to overlook a patient’s weight issues.

We all want to trust our doctors, but when it comes to obesity, the blind may be leading the blind.

Compared to non-obese doctors, overweight doctors were 40 percent less likely to counsel patients on weight loss, and 92 percent less likely to even note there was a problem in the first place.

Obesity increases your risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes, and the CDC estimates that as many as a third of all Americans are clinically obese.

So don’t be embarrassed if you fall into that category—just find a doctor who can help you en route to a healthier lifestyle.

Even small healthy eating choices—like swapping soda for water—can have a big impact on your waistline. The size of your jeans is much more important than just an aesthetics concern!
