Art Markman, Ph.D. is the Annabel Irion Worsham Centennial Professor of Psychology and Marketing at the University of Texas. After getting a B.S. in Cognitive Science from Brown University in 1988, he went on to graduate school in the Psychology Department at the University of Illinois, where he received his Ph.D. in 1992. He is a leading researcher on thinking and has explored motivation, decision making and reasoning in over 125 research papers. He is currently the executive editor of the journal Cognitive Science. Art’s next book, called “Smart Thinking” (Perigee Books), is scheduled for publication in January, 2012. The book provides recommendations for how to think more effectively based on current research. He writes a blog for Psychology Today called “Ulterior Motives” and also writes a blog for the Huffington Post. When he is not thinking about Psychology, Art can be found playing sax in the horn section of a blues band, walking the dog through beautiful Austin, Texas or hanging out with his family.
