No place sparks longing in the heart of beauty fanatics quite like Brazil. The country is known not only for its beautiful landscapes, but its beautiful residents, and the rest of the world is perpetually clamoring to get its hands on any and every method Brazilians use to get gorgeous. To learn the latest on Brazilian beauty, we consulted the official makeup artists behind two of the most popular beauty brands in the country. Marcos Costa of Natura and Giovanna Morrell of Contém1g weighed in on Brazil’s trends and tried-and-true favorites.

1Natural-Looking Skin

Contém1g

According to Morrell, “For a really long time Brazilian women weren’t foundation friendly, because they’re not used to having something on their skin, and they thought that the foundation was blocking the pores, but finally we accepted the foundation and we are enjoying having it on the skin!…Brazilian women are looking for foundations that have some treatment (like hydrating or SPF).” //Contém1g Natural Effect Base, $14.50

2Black Eyeliner With A Nude Lip

O Boticário

According to Costa, a popular trend is “ever present black eyeliner with a nude lipstick.” //O Boticário Pencil Kit For Eyes, $10Lipstick, $8.50

3Purple Lipstick + Nude Eyes

Others favor the opposite trend. “…Women prefer to use a pop of color on the lips [rather] than the eyes. And make the eyes a little bit more neutral. So the ‘naked shades’ are the trend for the eyes and bright and vivid color for the lips. Especially the purple tones,” says Morrell. //Contém1g Color Effect Lipstick, $11Artist Palette Lady, $21

“The other trend we are in love with is the combo of contour and bronzed skin,” says Morrell. //BestBronze Self Tanning Spray, $33.50

Natura

According to Costa, some new products to look out for are pigmented eye shadow and BB cream. //Natura Una Eye Palette, $20BB Cream, $13

6Trusty Basics

Costa dished on the go-to products that almost every Brazilian woman keeps in her purse: “Lipstick is still the great companion and necessity here. Also compact powder, because 70% of Brazilian women have oily skin and do not like to be shiny. Mascara and eyeliner for contouring are also used daily by Brazilian women.” When in doubt, stick to the classics!

As Costa reminded me, “It’s worth remembering that this is a very large country, and the Brazilian women’s preferences vary from region to region. But, the natural look will always be the most preferred by all…a Brazilian woman likes to highlight the eyes and lips and especially loves to leave the skin looking natural as if she is not using any makeup. She likes to feel beautiful, attractive, highlighting her natural beauty.” Go forth and flaunt your natural beauty!
