Before and after Ballet Beautiful

I hadn't exercised in three years. But now I'm a regular.

Six weeks after the birth of my second child, I began working out with ballerina Mary Helen Bowers using her Ballet Beautiful method, and chronicling my experience. I took her hour long classes three times per week, for six weeks. You can see from my before and after shots, above, this workout did wonders. And you can try it too—we're giving away 15 Ballet Beautiful DVDs (enter here!).

I lost weight naturally after having the baby as my body slowly went back to normal, but, as I know from my firstborn, the body you get back isn't as toned before, certain areas (read: your stomach) being worse-off than others, and whittling away those last 10 pounds takes extra effort.  And by extra I mean a lot

Bowers' exercises have the incredible ability to tighten and tone areas that seem impossible to reach—like the inner upper thighs, the lower abdomen (read: muffin top!) and the back of your legs. Her exercises found and worked muscles that my body previously didn't know existed (which is the beauty of ballet). I now have the confidence to wear above-the-knee skirts with reckless abandon (thanks to this move). And sit in a chair and not worry about my skirt hiking up. Imagine that.

I'm not the only one who has seen improvements. Six YouBeauty readers got to try Bowers' workouts with me. "When I started the Ballet Beautiful challenge six weeks ago I was 10 pounds heavier; now after eating better and exercising more I am lighter, leaner and have more energy," says Melissa Britt.

"I am feeling wonderful," says Sinni Alfaro-Medina. "I have seen the changes—and it is still a challenge—but it's been amazing to do."

Do I have the body of a ballerina? No—It's their jobs to train for over 12 hours a day. Do I have firmer thighs, better posture, improved self confidence and a healthier outlook on life? Yes. And most importantly, my children see an active, healthy mom!

You too can get fit at home with Mary Helen Bowers' new "Ballet Beautiful Total Body Workout" DVD. The targeted mat work and standing exercises will sculpt your arms, back, butt, legs and abs, and have you standing tall like a graceful ballerina in no time.
