One of the most dreaded beauty disasters of all, varicose veins, is as offensive as it is common: According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, an estimated 50 percent of women over the age of 21 suffer from the affliction, which can be caused by aging, genetics, weight gain and even pregnancy among other factors.
The bulging, enlarged veins are usually just an eyesore, but for some women, they actually cause pain and discomfort. Varicose veins are tricky buggers, and treatments include everything from compression stockings to outpatient surgery.

While the brave battle to get rid of them wages on, today there’s encouraging news from across the pond. Researchers at the Imperial College London recently found that when it comes to non-invasive treatments, foam sclerotherapy, also referred to as foam injections, are much more effective than Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA), a widely prescribed method.
There seem to be plenty of reasons why, ranging from the fact that foam injections are oh, say, cheaper, faster, and less painful, yet just as good at eradicating the veins. So the bottom line is, if you’re seeking treatment, it might be wise to spring for the foam option.
After all, as much as we hate getting varicose veins, what we hate even more is overpaying to get rid of them.
