Crafty dermatologists have found an option for people who want to plump their lips, but aren’t quite committed enough for full-on injectables (or the Kylie Jenner Challenge).

“Cinderella Lips” – so named because they disappear after 24-to-48 hours – are the latest new injectable, made of a simple saline solution. Dr. Michele Green, a NYC cosmetic dermatologist and RealSelf contributor, told us that saline is an option for people who want to test out how they’d look with cosmetically altered lips because solution will then be absorbed back into your body in just a day or two. However, the look will not be as subtle or natural-looking as with hyaluronic-acid lip fillers like Restylane and Juvederm, Dr. Green explained. (Um, not sure that Jenner’s lip fillers looked particularly natural, either.)

Restylane and Juvederm, on the other hand, last for up to six months or until the patient chooses to dissolve them with an injection of hyaluronidase.  Seventeen-year-old Jenner, whose infamous duck lips are undeniably in part responsible for starting this craze, has admitted to getting a “temporary lip treatment” that could be any of the above.

Like any injection, Dr. Green says, there is a chance for bruising, temporary swelling, or rarely, local infection. When done safely, the injections could pose a less-permanent way to see how you’ll look pulling a Kylie. (Can somebody say Halloween costume?!) The solution has been used in a similar fashion for those considering breast implants, or even women who simply want week-long vacation breasts.

Would you try out 24-hour “Cinderella lips” or is the idea of needles in your lips too unappealing? Let us know in the comments!
