Could it be true? A lot of the hairstyles at the Oscars this year are actually easy?! It’s totally true: ponytails and wavy ‘dos were all over the red carpet at the 2015 Academy Awards. Whether it was Naomi Watts’ loose curls or Sarah Hyland’s sleek, after-party updo, it’s safe to say this year had quite a few stunning looks that anyone could do at home — no hairstylist needed.

For a quick how-to on these stunning styles, we asked celebrity stylist Ryan Richman, for a step-by-step of Sarah Hyland’s pulled back pony.

To achieve this smooth updo, Ryan recommends spraying damp hair with a leave in treatment like Healthy Sexy Hair Soya Want It All 22 in 1 Leave-in Treatment to soften strands and prevent frizz.

Then, using a flat boar bristle brush, blow dry sections of hair beginning at the nape of your neck, and working your way to the front of your head.

After drying, use a one-inch straightener to smooth the hair. For Sarah Hyland’s pony, go back and use a flat brush to brush the hair into a high ponytail while spraying a shine spray such as Smooth Sexy Hair Smooth & Seal on the hair for enhanced shine and frizz control.

Finally, secure the hair at the high point of the head with an elastic and wrap a piece of hair around it in order to conceal the elastic band. Secure it with a bobby pin to keep it in place.

Keira Knightley and Naomi Watts opted for equally easy, wavy looks. Meaghan Masterson, a styist for Sexy Hair gave us some additional tips and tricks for their simple look.

For loose, un-done waves, start prepping damp hair with a smoothing balm like Smooth Sexy Hair Smooth Encounter before heat styling. Then, blow dry large sections of the hair, twisting with your fingers to create spirals and add extra texture.

Once hair is dry, use an oval-shaped curling iron on the whole head, curling two-inch sections for a loose wave. Once hair is curled, lightly brush through your hair to deconstruct the waves and dishevel the hair a bit. Spritz with a flexible hold hairspray to keep the look lasting all night long.

Keira Knightley’s hair was left fully down and loose. But for Naomi Watts’ look, in which her hair was pulled back from her face to furhter emphasize her wine-colored lips, Meaghan suggests tucking one sid of hair behind your ear and securing with a bobby pin. Also, for her more volumized look, spray one of YouBeauty editor’s favorite dry shampoos at the roots for more of a lifted look. Voila!
