Matcha tea is a type of green tea that comes from Japan. Unlike other teas, matcha is not made by steeping leaves in hot water and then removing them. Instead, matcha is a fine powder that you actually whisk directly into hot water, to make an antioxidant-rich drink that has a very green taste, but is less bitter than most teas. Since it’s made by simply grounding down steamed leaves, the nutrients are well-retained, making matcha’s health benefits even more powerful.

Studies have shown matcha can help boost metabolism, fix bad breath, and even help prevent diseases like cancer and HIV because of its crazy-high antioxidant levels.

This “Morning Glory” smoothie is simple, nutritious and delicious. It’s also a great alternative to coffee — one serving of matcha has about 1/3 the amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee, so you can still get a little energy boost without overloading on it.
