van der hagen shave butter

Every so often, I find a men’s product sitting on my desk and decide to give it a whirl. I use men’s razors, so why not try other men’s shaving products? They are made for dudes to use on their faces, so I figured they should be powerful enough for my legs. After taking a sniff of the cocoa buttery goodness in Van Der Hagen Shave Butter, I was sold, and set off to shower and shave.

Product:

Price: $6

We Think:

How It Looks, How It Smells: It feels like a buttery lotion, and smells like cocoa butter with a hint of mango. (Which makes sense — it’s made with shea, cocoa and mango butters!)

How to Use It: Wet your legs. Squeeze out a generous amount of shave butter into your palm, and massage into your skin. You only need a thin layer, but a little extra won’t hurt. Shave as normal. Massage the remaining product into your skin to add an extra dose of hydration. You’ll get the most out of it if you shave after washing your body, so the shave butter can sink into your skin after.

Results: I normally get really bad, bumpy ingrown hairs on the tops of my calves. But since using this shave butter, they’ve decreased significantly. My shave is much smoother, and my legs are less itchy post-shave. And (much to my boyfriend’s delight), I’ve started shaving my legs more regularly since I’m not dealing with as much irritation. It’s a few bucks more expensive than regular shaving gel, but for baby-soft, bump-free legs, it’s worth way more to me.

Right now, Van Der Hagen Shave Butter is only available online, but will be launching in RiteAid stores nationwide this March.

Disclaimer: I received Van Der Hagen Shave Butter as a sample.
