Consistency is great, especially when it comes to your fitness, but it can also get a little boring. If you’re struggling to get pumped up for your workout, you may want to challenge yourself by switching up your workout style. According to a recent study, opting for an unfamiliar workout may not only break you out of a fitness rut, but also make you feel like you had a more effective workout.

Researchers randomly assigned women (ages 18 to 49) to do either 30 minutes of walking on the treadmill or 30 minutes of hula hooping. The women who was the hoola hooping not only felt like they got a better workout, but they also felt more motivated to workout in the future. So, next time you’re lacking motivation, take a walk on the wild side and try something like a surf class, kickboxing or acrobatic yoga!
