I love the look of french manicure type nailes, and I know how to do the polish part of it, but whenever I try to grow out my nails for it, they are too thick, have jagged edges that don’t go away with filing, and just look ugly. Any tips?

You  might want to get them looked at by a dermatologist-  your description of them being “too thick” and having “jagged edges that don’t go away with filing” make me wonder if there’s perhaps a fungal issue going on, or some kind of abnormality with your nail plates.  When you talk about the jagged edges- do you mean ridges in your actual nails, or just the free edge of the nail is jagged?

megz2k – I actually have asked a dermatologist about it – sort of. One of my good friends is a dermatologist :-) , and she didn’t think there was anything abnormal going on. Just the free edge of the nails are jagged.
