I have a friend who is 21, and her bf is 34. Her ex is 35...She always tells me that she has learned a lot about life with them..and I am not talking about sex. Personally I think that if age does not matter to you, then what's the issue?? My dad is 8 years older than my mom and they have a very steady marriage. Personally I like men maximun 5 years older than me. So, it is your choice. But you should also talk to your mom in a mature and calm way and tell her what you feel. She may be a great help, you just need to use the right tone and let her know that you appreciate what she thinks.
