  *If you've ever been to a deli, not all meats are sliced round. I order prosciutto and they come out like long slices, a little wider than bacon would be. Also, some sandwhich meats like Ham, come in square-shapes, too. And again, bread can be long, fat, round,and even square, for example: Cuban bread. --> But, to really answer your question: It's quicker to cut a slice of salami or ham when it's been made round than having to cut it into a square.

  *You do know that there is such a thing as Detroit-styled pizza, right? A square-shaped pizza? But, again: It's a universal shape. Why buy specific-shaped sets of pizza boxes (square, circle) when it's cheaper and more efficient to fit a good sized pizza in a bigger shaped box, like one that's shaped square?

  *Most probably because once babies do fall asleep they look ultimately peaceful than an average adult who would most likely, toss and turn in their sleep.

  *Legally: Yes. And though they may be deaf, they will most likely have an interperter to 'speak' in sign language to. So, in some sense, in their own way, they 'listen' to people who 'speak' in sign language :)
