is it necessary to rinse quinoa before cooking it? Why would I need to do that? Is it bad to just cook it without rinsing it?

I know it's definitely recommended but not sure if it's necessary. I've cooked quinoa that was not rinsed before and it seemed fine. A little bitter, but no other adverse effects. I know some brands (like Trader Joe's) don't need to be rinsed.

I always rinse Quinoa in warm water then I drain it. Quinoa has a natural coating called saponin that repels insects and birds and can create a bitter taste. Rinsing with warm water removes the saponin.
