Yes the muffin top!!!  I just finally got rid of mine and it only took me a little over a month.  First of all I love to social drink on vacation or the weekends which is a huge contributor because of the empty calories in alcohol and the poor food choices you tend to make while drinking.  I got rid of mine by doing core exercises like pilates and cutting out all bad carbs.  If you're somebody who cannot cut out bread switch to Ezekial bread but definitely cut out greasy fast foods, hamburgers, french fries or processed foods from the shelf.  Cardio is also great but if it's not working for you add pilates or weight training... check out my blog for more ideas kellibaresall.com

I got rid of mine by cutting back on alcohol, not eating out, no processed foods, carbs, mayonaisse butter, no dressings on salads. I can wear highwaisted clothes again!!!!  I also workout five to six days a week for 1 to 2 hours a day. Its hard work but damn is it worth it when I see myself naked!

Yea, good clue, why do you think they call it "muffin top"?   The message we hear all the time is cut back on FAT and calories, but it's the CARBS that really are the culprit.  They're cheap and they're Everywhere --- bread, pasta, cereal, cookies, cakes, snacks, alcohol, many processed foods, and yes, even whole grains... (Huh, I thought they were good for us?  Better than white flour stuff, but as I always say to clients: "Think about it, what do they use to fatten cattle?")

A lot of factors involved, like glycemic index, digestive health and how fast our cells metabolize or burn them --- but bottomline, overweight or other chronic problems, after writing two books about it, I've concluded that the single best way to get rid of belly fat is to "cut the carbs." Take a break from them for awhile to give your digestion a chance to heal. Eat more vegetables. Might seem like punishment, but believe me, it works.  You'll have more energy, clarity, less stress and cravings...AND a disappearing waistline!

Didn't mean to get into a long post, but this I've proven to be true, even
for my own fast-burning, usually slender self!  Email me if you want some
more help with this.  Nancy Lee Bentley, Wholistic Health Expert,

Here's a very common problem...Have no fear, you are never alone! OK...so many contributing factors or 'ingredients' (pun intended) to create this 'muffin top'. .Genetics, just a very tiny part of this...Mostly,  muffin tops tend to arise from overeating(and I know some people don't)..However, that area of the body tend to store the excess of what we overeat and is sometimes difficult(not impossible) to change.

The first thing I do every morning? I stretch..Stretching exercises are  great to wake up to, get the circulation going and start your day. While you are at it...whay not 'throw'  twist and shout while you are at it?

I find that side-to-side bends and twists (standing up) works...you just have to stay comitted.

Of course jogging and walking will also rev your metabolic rate and burn fat and calories..However not everyone is cut out for this, in addition, 'muffin tops' need a good dose of specific, spot targeting/toning.

These ones really work- they isolate your mid-core...so here goes..

    Stand-up-Twists
With your hands behind your head, knees bent slightly and elbows should be slightly bent, making sures your hips do not move, twist to one side then the other, alternating sides. Start with many as you can...but a good start  would be aiming for 25 on each side and work up to say 100 or more per reps daily.

    Side Bends
With your feet hip apart, your arms at your sides, reach toward your toes with one arm, as you lift the other one up toward your waist, place your hand(the one that is not reaching your toes on your hip). The goal will be to alternate sides with one arm up, one arm down. Again.. no rules...but aim for 100 reps daily.

(you can also do them throughout the day, as opposed to all at once, this way its more manageable). Have some upbeat music in the background...helps always! Hey Try them..They are easy, fun, almost sweatfree, painfree, requires no gym memberships, and what do you have to lose? except muffin tops? (:- Keep us posted! Good luck and Take care!

The muffin top will go away when you fulling embrace the concept of "naked" food. I'd love to share some ideas with you over at http"//www.cookingnakedafter40.com

I am a student in made to measure clothes and I just recently learned why we have muffin tops. The problem: fashion! We have done this to ourselves. With the introduction of "low rise" pants/jeans! What happens is that our natural shape is an hourglass. Even plus size like myself, I still have a very defined waist because I refuse to wear low-rise. When you wear low rise pants, they no longer have that ledge, if you will, to hold on to. By ledge, I mean where the hips narrow to become the waist. Instead, they are trying to hold on to the widest portion, your hips.

Imagine, if you will, sliding a ring down a tube versus sliding it onto a cone. On a tube, the ring will slide completely to the bottom unless you make the ring sooo tight that it squeezes onto the tube and you will see a pucker where the ring is too snug. BUT!!! Imagine sliding that same ring onto a cone shape. It can only slide down to where the ring and cone are similar in size, but the wider section below the ring stops it from falling further.

Same thing goes for your pants. In order to lose the muffin top, all you can do is lose a little weight. However, once you go down that dress size, forego the too-tight low-rise jeans and try a pair that sits a little bit higher, closer to your natural waist (where the sides of your stomach fold when you bend left and right). Otherwise, you wind up with the same problem all over again. Don't believe it? Sit somewhere with lots of foot traffic and take a look at all the slim girls. (Healthy bodies, not too skinny). You'll probably notice that even the size 4's and 6's have a muffin top! It's true!

And stop worrying about what the number on your tag says! I'll let you in on another secret I learned. All the numbers are lies! In North America, there is no law requiring each size to be universal. You might wear a 4 in Wal-mart, an 6 in Tommy Hilfiger and a 10 in some high-end snotty boutique! And STILL don't worry! In industry that size 4 is actually a size 8, that 6 is a 10-ish and that 10 is about a 16! Companies lower the numerical value on the tags to make women feel better about themselves! Example, in stores, I wear a 26-28 depending on the cut... In industry patterns, I use the 32-34 size!!!! So don't even TRY to correlate or calculate your size based on your measurements because there is absolutely no correlation between your measurements and the store sizes.Muffin top

In the meantime, here's a picture for thought. This woman is NOT overweight by anymeans and take a look at the back view picture: that looks like a muffin top to me! And she's not even sitting down yet!!!

Cut out from your diet all wheat, sugar, sodas and artificial sweetnerers.  Exercise aerobically (run, jog, power walk, Zumba) 30 minutes every day.  I run (6-9 mph) for over an hour a day and, at 70, have no tummy and no muffin top!

I'm not giving up dessert or my low rise jeans, but I've recently learned to accept my curvy shape, which, yes, includes a muffin top.  Whether or not you need to lose weight, you can improve your figure by eating well, sleeping, drinking lots of water (especially if it's instead of soda) and exercising.  For a slim waist I recommend power yoga, pilates, bellydancing, or anything fun that gets you really using your core muscles. Love your curves and remember that confidence trumps the muffin top in a guy's eyes.

notme, agree. Except I had to give up several desserts. Still have a few. Agree on the jeans. I have 2 or 3. Yep, I love my curvy body. I lost 80lbs. Took awhile, but I did it. Yes, drinking a lot of water, eating better and sleeping enough does help! Also for me walking and staying active. Sometimes I'm like the energizer bunny. Lol! Having a lot of fun with my nieces and nephews! Right, anything fun that gets you using your core muscles will help.

When I turned eleven, I got a tire around my waist. i was told not to worry; that all girls get baby fat and then lose it.

    I didn't.

Kids in high school called me Twiggy because I was so thin, but I could  wear only A-lines because of this problem. Still have it, and nothing has helped it. I have tried all of the above. Plus I have a very short torso , and it is wide, so it's even worse than normal.

    I feel like a freak.

I have been using the belly butt and thigh work out video it comes with a ball and its 25 bucks at walmart...IT WORKS WONDERS!!! Just remember to keep your abs tight during the workout and do it at least 3-4 times a week. I was sooo sore after the first work out but I got whipped in to the beginners work out and it has next up and intermediate work out. It is definatley worth the money and time. Another tip, eat through out the day when you feel hungry eat a banana, and some nuts. We as Americans need to remember we aren't living to eat we are eating to live. So intake the amount of food you need and that muffin top Will melt and you'll see some tightening, toning and a really big smile when you check yourself out in the mirror ...yes even naked :)!!! Hope that helps, have a great day and seriously think about investing in that work out video

I haven't had the "muffin top" but I do have the lower pouch belly. it gets on my nerves so bad, when i go to the gym i've tried all sorts of workout and the ab twist machine seems to be doing wonder on my love handles, and a little to my lower stomach although i do feel it working a little, the dr. told me anyone who eats is going to have that, so I still do the work-out twist like said above to keep it from forming the "muffin top", although drinking soda less would help me and anyone else who also drinks it, i can't fight that addiction for longer than a few days (in which i feel and look better) i lost 3ibs in 2 days just from no soda, i just embrace how i look. Also I found measuring yourself 1 every couple of weeks may help you feel even better because even if you can't see in the mirror it gives you that extra motivation, like hey this is working. good luck :)

A lot of the fat around that area can be diminished by actually working the back and lower ab muscles. I had a bit of "muffin top" for a while and I was running almost daily. The moment i started sit ups and pushups with my feet elevated slightly and side bends...They pretty much disappeared! Hope this helps :)
