So confused about supplements! There are too many kinds. What do you take as a daily vitamin?

Here's what I take daily: A multivitamin, 1200mg of Fish Oil / Omega 3 Fatty Acids, and Vitamin D3, because I recently found out from my doctor that I am low on Vitamin D.

My doc recommended Green Source iron-free multivitamin. But it's annoying because you're supposed to take it 3x per day. I can barely remember to take it twice so I'm not sure if I'm getting all the benefits.

After going through menopause, make sure your multivitamin has no iron it. Postmenopausal women store more iron, and this puts you at risk for iron overload. B12 is very important, especially if you’re a vegetarian. Get no more than 100 percent of the recommended daily amounts of Vitamin A. If you’re interested in a specific brand, contact the company and ask if they have verification that their product is high quality. You can check out the Omega-3 section of the Supplement Your Beauty article for good information on EPA/DHA supplements. Let us know how your supplement search goes!

My nutrition professor stressed that all of our vitamins and nutrients should come directly from the food we eat and that we should only take vitamins if our regular diet is lacking in a key area. The tough part then is to be aware of the areas in which we are deficient which could take some serious charting of meals. While taking a daily multivitamin probably can't hurt, it's likely not doing as much good as we think because we're already getting our daily allowance through our regular diet. And since our body can only absorb a certain amount of certain vitamins, the rest is just being excreted.

I use Dr. Weil's vitamin advisor which gives free recommendations on his website for any additional supplements. I agree that a varied, whole food based diet is the essential foundation for good health.

I take a multivitamin (split in two) that was recommended by The Center for Science in the Public Interest in one of their newsletters. Also twice a day I take - 250mg of DHA Omega-3, 60mg of CoQ10 , 600mg of calcium, 100mg of magnesium and 100mg of Vit D (Calcium, magnesium and Vit D taken together). Outside of that I take PGX fibre before every meal, and Forskolin before lunch and dinner (I've lost 45lbs this year and a lot of that is due to those two that were recommended by Dr. Oz)

Magnesium is the natural muscle relaxer and calcium is the natural nerve relaxer. Calcium does A LOT in the body....it helps the nerves get/give the right signals. Make sure you get enough of that.

Dr. Oz recently did a show on his "Smart Guide to Buying Supplements" as many companies make claims to their potency and benefits that, as he discovered, are totally untrue. Of very few supplements that passed the test for validity in the Omega 3's/fish oil category, AdvoCare's OmegaPlex was one of two mentioned and AdvoCare's Probiotic Restore Ultra was THE only Probiotic that lived up to all of its claims. An 18 year old Nutritional & Wellness company, AdvoCare is sold through a distributor base to make sure that consumers are taking the products they NEED-not just to "sell" something. I won't post my website or anything on here but the ONLY way to go in purchasing supplements that will live up to their claims and benefit your entire family will come from AdvoCare-hands down.

I used to take Berocca vitamins. They are usually available in form of tablets. It is expensive, but the tablets are cheaper than the ready-to-drink bottle. Overall a fine product for short term use.

personally, i take Vitamin C only.

it's cheap and really works miracles in your body. and it is actually one of the basic need of a body in order to fuction well. Vitamin C acts like a catalyst. it promotes the body's absorption of other nutrients. then you can forgo from taking other supplement capsules and just eat nutritous foods (since synthetics that are present in capsules don't work well with our kidneys). :)

Co Enzyme Q10 is a really important supplement. It has been recommended to me by 3 specialists now and has been linked to helping prevent cancer, higher concentration, and a healthier heart. Maybe worth looking into for you. I take 300mgs every day (one 100mg with every meal). Also try to include taking a shot of wheatgrass or wheatgrass tablets with your breakfast in the morning, gives you so much extra energy. Hope this helps!
