What is a good cure for relieving red or irritated skin after waxing and shaving?

If you have razor burn, I agree that you can get an over-the-counter tube of hydrocortisone (0.5 to 1 percent strength). Apply twice a day to the irritated area. For shaving gel or cream, try a hypoallergenic and fragrance-free brand. Use a good razor and change the blade at least once a week. If waxing persistently gives you trouble as well, you can look into laser hair removal treatments. "Sugaring" is another option. Some people report that this hair removal method is gentler on the skin.

If you want to keep waxing, I would try sugaring. Also, one of the main problems with your skin being irritated from waxing and shaving, is you need to use a good moisturizer of some kind. Like a good bar of soap that has tea tree oil in it to help moisturize the skin before shaving and waxing.

For some people with really sensitive skin, ice may cause further redness. {I speak from personal experience here.} The fastest way to ward off irritation is by using Cortisol or hydrocortisone as someone suggested below. :]

You can try ice or hydrocortisone cream if your skin's really irritated. Some brands also have calming gels. My personal favorite soothing treatment: Rosewater cloths from "Shobha" (haven't tried their gel yet)--they're a hair removal expert here in NY! Like Nadia, I prefer sugaring. I usually get my brows done a day or two before a big event if I know they still might be a little red. If you wax, Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen have recommended asking for room temp wax to lessen the hair removal damage. For shaving legs, make sure the water's really warm and suds up!

I have really sensitive skin as well and I find that sugaring (a waxing technique that uses sugar instead of wax) is much better for my skin. It's a lot gentler so I don't wind up with red bumps for the next week like I do with waxing. I also get my eyebrows threaded, which is a lot easier on my skin than waxing them. We're also checking in with our Dermatology Advisor Amy Wechsler, M.D. for expert advice, so stay tuned!

Do most places that provide waxing services also provide sugaring? Or is sugaring a less known technique? I would like to try that. I have super sensitive skin. This time around i used a fresh cut aloe vera leaf and it seemed to work fairly well to calm my skin.
