Rules for letting a guy know you are interested

These are questions for men but I don't know how many men actually are part of forums like this. Thought I'd try anyway.... What can a woman do to let a man know she is interested without going overboard? Also, what can a woman do to scare a man away when you are first getting to know each other....cell/text too much, make initial contact each day? Is the old fashioned way of "letting the man make the first moves" still apply today? I'm so confused!! :-)
