Its been close to two years since i gave birth to my first child and due to certain circumstances an emergency c-section was performed. Being ignorant to what c-sections could do to a woman's body i didn't take the right measures to get back to my normal size. After the c-section i have what i think is extra skin that may have lost its ability to tighten. My lower stomach is now stretched and has multiple stretchmarks that seem impossible to remove. One question i have is after such a surgery what should a person do to get back into shape and have a stretch mark free body? Another thing i have been questioning is have i waited to long to regain a tighter and slimmer shape? And finally what makes it easier for a woman who had a natural birth to get a healthier body than a woman who had a Cesarian section? I'll appreciate all answers anyone may have... thank you

I would believe that once the skin has stretched and lost it's ability to "bounce back" there is not a lot that can be done! After my first child I had stretch marks and with time they faded from ugly purple to a shade lighter than my natural skin tone. However after another 6 children the ol' body aint what she used to be and no matter how many sit ups, crunches or otherwise the skin isn't going to snap back, although under there the muscles are all good! I've had natural and c-section delivers and the upside of natural is you are up and on your feet again so much quicker, and able to carry on as normal. In reality, any woman who dosen't have a million dollar a year pay check is going to have stretch marks, and without all the surgeries they can afford and skin lighteners, airbrush atrists and everything else, they too would and do suffer stretch marks we just don't see them. It's a badge of honour for us Mums!

Hi Kadjah, The C-section had nothing to do with you getting the stretch marks-that came from the pregnancy. It sounds like you had a big baby, which might have caused the extra skin. I think that some women get a fold in their skin when they have had abdominal surgery, however, with the right diet, you can reduce the appearance of that too. Have you tried a low carb diet, i.e., no sugar, pasta, rice, or grains? You might just be bloated and if you try this diet, I think you will see some results. Also, do sit ups-they really do tighten the abdominal muscles.

Hi Jessandidusty, To get that lower body in shape, I encourage you to follow a similar diet that I suggested to Kadjah. Greatly reduce or completely eliminate the carbs-they cause fat to accumulate in the body. In addition, you should do thigh and but exercises that will tighten those areas. The leg press at the gym will tighten your thighs, and also do hamstring exercises. The hip abductor is great to tighten and town those hips and lower abdomen area. Lastly, good old fashioned squats will give you back your brazilian butt in no time. :)

I only had one C-Section and my son is going to be 19 years old. He was a small baby and I had to have the c-section due to him being breach. It is now 19 years later and it seems as if the stomach has never returned to what it used to be. Even the first few years after having him when I was much smaller then I am now. I still even have some numbness and tingling in that area around the scar. As far as the strech marks they have faded to just about the same color of my skin. I think the only way for me to get back a nicer figure is with plastic surgery. Which I am planing in the near future.

After my c-section, I wore a girdle to snap my body back as much as I could. Six years later, exercise keeps the muscles in good shape, and girdles/Spanx still work for mashing in that extra skin. Overall, I'm satisfied, I just don't wear bikinis any more. Good luck!

Ladies a c-section is major surgery and the trauma your body under goes is severe. What also matter is the type of material used in closure of incison. Most importantly the skill level of the doctor who closed you up. I have had 2 c-sections and my 1st was very traumatic, with am ugly scar. My second took longer but my scar is virtually invisible. My stomach was wrecked from the first but with proper diet and exercise I can live with it. Do not omit carbs your body needs them but eat in moderation. Do omit simple carbs though they are the ones your body can live without. There are a lot of fruits and vegetables that are complex carbs so thats why I say limit and do not omit. You may want to omit gluten products and cow's milk since many people are intolerant to these and they cause bloating. Try pilates and/or yoga spot exercises do not work. What you do want to do is strengthen your core which situps will only take care a part of. The ideal abs workout works your upper, lower and sides. Also take stock in your posture the weaker your core is the worse the posture.
