I am 69, just remarried, and about 20 lbs overweight (all in my midriff). I want to lose weight, but it would be easier if I felt prettier right now. I'm 5'4", and weigh 155#. I'm willing to go out & spend some money for new clothes even though I hope they get too large for me. I need help!! Oh, I have good legs. Are there any web sites I can go to for advice? I like dramatic & feminine clothes. I have long, silver, very curly hair. Any guidance or suggestions would be welcomed. thanks & blessings

As far as I know (you don't need to follow my advice) but I suppose any tops such as babydoll tops that cinch under your bust and flow outwards and A-line tops would be good because they draw attention away from your middle region.

Or else you could try drawing attention elsewhere: For example, print pants are all the rage this summer season (or even spring). Try floral themed pants or pants that are elegant but with some interesting detail that draw attention away. Even skirts of that sort might do well.

A-line dresses or ones with empire waists are once again suggested.

Just to add to that, I'd say you could even wear a loose top and use a belt over the slimmest region on your torso to give yourself a slimmer effect? I'd recommed chosing plain colours and accesorizing so that you'd feel more interesting and accessories are something easily reused!

But then again, the best accessory is confidence! A woman who can speak so well about herself can carry anything off given that she has confidence in her bosy (remarried at 69! Congrats)

    Cheers!

Wow! You have just exemplified to esp. women that age is just a state of mind...a bunch of numbers...that's all!  You go..Thanks. Congratulations on your marriage and I wish you bliss!

Ok...so you like dramatic clothes..that's ok..Just nothing that is going to accentuate your tum tum(:-

For example, a  black dress, though flattering, but with a gray block in the middle would only accentuate what you would prefer to hide. or a yellow belt or any really...Go with monochromatic, loose, less clingy  looks...so everything blends and stay away from florals, etc., (esp. big patterns). A nice pair or earrings will keep attention up there rather than down there as well. etc.,

You also have nice legs? hey it is Summer..show them off! this is where you should keep attention..on your best assets..in your case you have nice legs, some people would say their legs are the opposite.. so take advantage of this.. We all have our 'weak spots' and our insecurities..so do what I do, and so many others. Keep attention away from the areas you are not so crazy about and DO focus on the areas you are most comfortable with.

I agree, confidence is the sexiest thing about anyone...especially a quiet confidence...and he(David)? (:- married you...so don't be hard on yourself, in the meantime, go for walks, eat more fibre, and low fat foods, perhaps swap an entire meal whether dinner or lunch for just fruits and veggies, do jumping jacks, even if you start at 5 per day..and if you can handle pushups...even if you start off with bended kness until you can do them with straight legs...You will feel and see the difference.

It builds your core, legs, arms...for me that's a full body workout if you can do them...but please don't injure yourself...work up to this gradually. When I started I could only do 10 on bended knees, I increased my rep gradually, and on good days I can now get up to 50-100 per day....(not bad eh)? Works for me when I am getting a 'tummy overload'...but that's ok...we are all beautiful..and we know it! We just need to be reminded of it, and that's what this site is all about and what we are all here for. Take care Good luck, let us know how it's going ok?-all will be well.

I am overweight as well..and therefore very shy to go out shopping. But recently I realized that if I wear some clothes which look expensive and with decent make-up, I feel very confident.

So jackets which cover my butt half-wa through, knee length A-line skirts, V-neckline tops and nothing that is biggy or overly fitted.

Late to the party, but I just wanted to follow up with davidwife....first of all, congratulations on your marriage - I remarried late also.  I'm curious if you ever found a place to buy clothing that suits you and that you love.  I'm looking for the same thing.  65, circle shape, love drama and jewel colors, but waaay short, only 5-feet tall, so things get tricky...can't afford tailoring for every item.

If anyone else has someplace to recommend, I'd appreciate it!
