When you’re tearing it up on the dance floor with your closest friends…or groups of strangers, you’re doing your body more good than just burning off a ton of calories!

In a recent study, Brazilian researchers divided 264 teenagers into groups and observed them dancing in groups and solo. They had participants fill out a survey before and after the activities, gaging their level of closeness to each other. They also measured their pain threshold by measuring their blood pressure. They found that because synchronized dancing not only released endorphins, which caused people to feel a stronger connection, they also elevated individuals pain tolerance.
