Face masks are simply fantastic. They feel great, are perfect for a self-care day, and improve your skin. There are tons of face masks out there, for every skin problem imaginable: acne, redness, wrinkles, the list goes on. And realistically, no one has perfect skin. In fact, most people probably have more than one skin issue. And what do you do when you want to use a face mask, but have different skin issues you’re trying to tackle?

Simple- you multi-mask.

If you’re going to invest in a bunch of different face masks, why not apply them all simultaneously? Different areas of your skin require different products. Why would you use an anti-acne mask on your whole face when just your forehead is breaking out? Multi-masking is the answer to all your problems, you just have to make sure you do it right, and here’s how:

Multi-mask post-shower
The best time to put on a face mask is right after you get out of the shower. The heat and steam from the shower open up your pores, letting the face mask get in and work its magic.

Exfoliate before applying
Even if your skin is super dry and you’re planning on putting on a moisturizing face mask, you still want to exfoliate first. Exfoliating removes flaky skin and dead cells, so your mask will go on smoother.

Be strategic with your masks
While multi-masking is the way to go with face masks, it requires a little more effort. First, determine what your skin needs help with. You may want to apply an anti-inflammatory mask where you’re breaking out and a hydrating mask where your skin is dry. And you may even want to throw in some nourishing under-eye patches. You can use as many masks as you deem necessary, just make sure you’re strategic about their placement.

Plan out the timing
Different face masks require different amounts of time, so you must take that into consideration! If you’re using two masks and one takes 20 minutes, and the other takes 10, apply the 20-minute mask first and halfway through, apply the 10-minute mask. That way, you can wash them both off at the same time!

Follow with your regular skincare routine
The skincare treatment doesn’t end just there! Make sure you follow with your regular skincare routine (toner, serum, etc.) and DON’T forget the moisturizer! A moisturizing post-face mask is absolutely necessary.
