Khloe Kardashian has always been one of my favorite members of her high-powered family. She’s candid, unafraid to laugh at herself, and has tried her best to keep a smile on her face while enduring major personal struggles — what more could we ask for in a TV role model/imaginary BFF? Khloe’s been a stunner at every size and shape, but lately she’s been showing off an especially fit body that’s got the world talking. SHEfinds reports that at a recent visit to Australian radio station Fitzy & Wippa, she shared her secret to looking and feeling great:

“I’ve made major cutbacks. I used to love soda. So I’ve cut out soda completely and I’ll drink iced tea or water for what I drink throughout my day. I just made that like a lifestyle change. I’ll do like one thing, like, a month. I’ll just cut something off little by little, and then it just becomes like a part of your life. You don’t even think about it…

I think all diets are kind of weird. The word ‘die’ is in it. I believe in lifestyle changes, and when you think of something long term, you do it better. If I know I just have to eat this way for a week, how does that help you for the long term? It doesn’t.”

I couldn’t agree more! When habits stay with us for the longterm, we’re more likely to find sustainable health instead of bouncing through a series of yo-yo diets. A big reason so many people fail at hardcore diets or other life-changing resolutions is that we tend to try to take on too many new habits at once, then get overloaded and shut down. Taking on a new habit each month is a great way to be sure that every healthy practice you’re implementing has the chance to cement itself into your routine and become second nature.

Cutting out soda seems like such a perfect way to start — both diet and regular soda have unpleasant effects on our bodies (hi, bloating) and can even make our minds fuzzy thanks to that sugar-high feeling from regular soda and the headaches that sometimes accompany a can of Diet Coke. No thanks!

Sure, Khloe may have an ultra-expensive personal trainer at her command, but at the end of the day, she’s also found her way to health by making the kinds of changes that your average non-millionaire everygirl could do just the same. That makes for one more reason to love her!
