According to a new study conducted by the University of Michigan, scientists have proven what we all knew was true – cheese is a drug. Researchers sought out to unearth the most addictive foods and found that processed favorite foods like pizza, chocolate and ice cream ranked the highest. But cheese was the leading non-processed food to make the cut. Why? Cheese contains the protein, casein. When it is broken down during digestion, it releases opiates called casomorphins, which send dopamine receptors spiraling out of control, triggering the addictive property.
