We women have the special gift of getting to carry excess fat around our hips and thighs. But when menopause kicks in, we begin packing on those pounds in our middles—the way men typically do. New research out of Concordia University finds that as estrogen dips post-menopause, overall fat storage ramps up, which causes cells in previously slenderer areas to store more fat than they did before.
