Add this to the ongoing debate about alcohol’s effect on your health: A new Rhode Island Hospital study of pigs found that red wine improved high cholesterol more than vodka.

Red wine dilates blood vessels, while vodka causes the production of more collateral vessels. Of course, the study was in pigs, not humans, so more research is needed! But these findings echo a number of other studies that point to red wine’s heart-health effects. A glass a day may even help keep off the weight, as one study of women showed.
