We hear it all the time…”working out is good for you”, “working out keeps you healthy”, “working out keeps you young”. But, did you know that working out can literally reduce cellular aging?
But, this only goes for high active adults because even moderately active adults are lagging behind. High active adults actually have a 7 year advantage over those who are moderately active.
Not only do you have to be high active, but you must be consistent…like doing it at least 5 days a week. High active workouts are great for cardio, strength and stamina.
High active exercises include:
- jogging for 30 or more minutes
- biking whether it be indoor bike riding or outdoor bike ridding
- jump roping
- playing sports
- brisk walks
- even sex
Why does this work?
Scientists say that people who exercise have longer telomeres than those who are sedentary. They still aren’t quite sure how this works, but they believe that it has to do with inflammation and oxidative stress.
Essentially, exercising preserves the telomeres.
Another kind of workout that’s important are ones that increase flexibility. Staying flexible is the best way to prevent injury and keep the muscles strong.
Keep varying your workouts and enjoying being physically active and you’ll increase your chances of living a long, healthy and youthful life.
