Kanye West is no stranger to controversy, but after he announced that he’ll be running for president in the 2020 election, things have taken a weird turn. After Kanye made his presidential announcement, his wife, Kim Kardashian, tweeted an American flag in support.

But in the short few weeks since then, Kanye has spoken out regarding a few issues in his campaign, and we’re not so sure how Kim feels now.

He stopped in South Carolina as part of his campaign and gave an unusual hour-long speech about his political opinions. In his speech he criticized Harriet Tubman, talked about his struggles with opioids, and discussed business with Adidas. He then turned the convo to discuss his pro-life stance, stating publicly how he and Kim had considered getting an abortion during their first pregnancy.

“She had the pills in her hand! I almost killed my daughter!” He announced to the public. “My girlfriend called me screaming, crying,” West said. “And she said ‘I’m pregnant. For one month and two months and three months, we talked about her not having this child.”

His outrange caused fans to be concerned about West’s mental state. In 2016, he opened up about his struggles with bipolar disorder and how he had to cancel 21 concert dates due to a psychological emergency.

In addition to discussing his pro-life stance, West said many other controversial statements during his speech. He said that Harriet Tubman “never actually freed the slaves, she just had them work for other white people.”

Outraged, many people took to Twitter to criticize both Kanye West and Kim Kardashian following his statements. Some people said it’s Kim’s duty to intervene with Kanye’s behavior, while others said it’s not Kim’s job to stop him.

Kim is known for having supported Kanye in the past, through all his outlandish behavior. In 2018, she tweeted how people are “so quick to label him as having mental health issues for just being himself when he has always been expressive. He’s a free thinker, is that not allowed in America? Because some of his ideas differ from yours you have to throw in the mental health card? That’s just not fair.”

Kim has yet to make a statement following Kanye’s speech in South Carolina. But after all of this, I’m very curious if she will continue to stand by him in support.
