Long flights are anything but enjoyable. It’s so unfortunate that we have to travel such far distances to go to such amazing places in the world, but hey- that’s life! Going on a long flight doesn’t have to be all that bad, as long as you go prepared.

Some people go over-prepared for a long flight, while others don’t go prepared at all. Here is what you need to survive a long trip, without taking up too much space in your carry-on:

Headphones
This might seem like a given, but lots of people forget to bring headphones on a flight. And if you have wireless headphones, make sure you bring a pair that can plug into the TV screens on the back of the seats.

Snacks
Most long flights will provide food, but just in case hunger strikes and you don’t want to splurge on the overpriced airplane snacks, pack a few portable snacks in your bag.

Small Toiletry Bag
Just in case you need to freshen up mid-flight or during a layover, pack a mini toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant, makeup remover, and whatever else you think you might need.

Phone Charger
If you’re going on a long flight and planning on listening to music, odds are your phone is going to die. Pack a phone charger so you can charge your phone before and during the flight!

Eye Mask
Eye masks make a world of difference on long flights. Although they often dim the lights on long flights, an eye mask will help you sleep for longer.

Neck Pillow
Sometimes they provide a pillow on long flights, but bringing a neck pillow will allow you that extra comfort and reassurance to help you fall asleep.

Socks
If you’re not wearing socks when you board the plane- bring a pair!!! Planes get cold and keeping your feet warm with a pair of socks will help you stay extra comfy.

A Sweatshirt
Even if you’re going to a warm place from another hot spot, bring a sweatshirt! Planes are notorious for getting cold, and nothing is worse than freezing on a long flight.
