Everything on Earth has its place and purpose including food. That is why certain foods are harvested during designated seasons because they are best consumed during that time. It’s just the way nature intended it to be.

Now that fall is upon us it’s time to enjoy the foods that are fully ripen for the season. Check out some of the best foods that are ready to be enjoyed for the fall season:

 

Apples
Apples are a classic fruit that are usually available in stores year around, however this time of year is when they are harvested. They provide full antioxidants and can be eaten raw or baked.

Brussels sprouts
It’s usually hard to get kids (and adults) to eat their Brussels sprouts. Don’t skip them! They are a good source of vitamin K and iron.

Pears
People carry mixed reviews on pears. Some love them while others hate them. This fruit can be eaten raw or cooked. Health benefits you’ll enjoy include vitamin C, copper and fiber.

Rutabaga
This veggie is a cross between a turnip and a cabbage. They have a wonderful earthy flavor and can be eaten with turnips and carrots. They are a good source of fiber and vitamin C.

Cauliflower
Once the fall sets in this veggie sticks around throughout the winter. It carries cancer-prevention compounds and is an excellent source of vitamin C.

Squash
Winter squash has a slightly sweet flavor and can be stored for long periods of time. It contains omega-3 fatty acids and is a good source of vitamin A.

Pumpkin
This is probably most associated with fall. Pumpkin is a kind of winter squash that works well in pies and cakes. It is a powerful source of potassium, fiber and B vitamins.

Turnips
This root vegetable is a good source of vitamin C, A and K as well as folate.
