“Inside Amy Schumer” fights gender inequality with its hilarious sketches onscreen and apparently also behind Comedy Central doors. Shows like “Workaholics” have been throwing around the word “dick” forever, but similarly crass slang terms for women’s genitalia were censored. But thanks to Schumer and her staff, “pussy” now also gets its voice heard. At Saturday night’s Paley Center panel as part of the New York Comedy Festival, “Inside Amy Schumer”’s executive producer Dan Powell told a sold-out audience that he wouldn’t stand for the network’s rule to allow male anatomical references slip past while forbidding female. After a conference call with network executives that was “Dan’s ‘Mr. Smith Goes to Washington,'” Comedy Central relented. The premiere ‘pussy’ sketch, “Acting Off-Camera” features Amy as a pantsless animated meerkat. Okay, maybe it’s not the most serious of battles, but it’s a pretty big step in the right direction of gender equality. Please keep in mind all the thought, hard work and office politics (not to mention the actual comedy writing) that went into this sketch as you enjoy the line “My character has a pussy:”
