In the past I would always breeze by white dresses in the store. They weren’t really my thing and I rarely pulled them for my clients. Cut to now: I can’t get enough of the LWD!
If you’ve been shopping lately you probably couldn’t help but notice the surge of white dresses filling the racks at your favorite boutiques (the shopping godesses must be telling you something!).
You should embrace this trend the way you would the LBD. In fact, the white dress is even more of a blank canvas because it’s err…white…and like its darker, sleeker cousin, it works overtime day into evening. Don’t sweat, because there’s an LWD for every style personality: lady-like, flirty, bohemian, neat and sweet, modern and minimal—take your pick.
And when it comes to the right style for your body shape, well, I’ve got you covered there too, just check out my cheat sheet below. Bottom line? Get on board with this fresh summery trend you’ll look and feel fantastic all season long.
Pear: Choose a relaxed, peasant style that skims your hips and bottom and shows off some leg from the knee down. Pair it with a jute wedge, a funky Aztec inspired necklace and go for Boho!
LWD Suggestion: Stella’s Cotton Voile Peasant Dress, $74.99, at TerritoryAhead.com
Hourglass: Find your curves in a fitted white dress that has a touch of stretch and lots of seaming detail. Contrast your natural sexiness with a lady-like style that hints at your bust but doesn’t over sell it or go for a classy minimal neckline that allows your silhouette to shine. Pair your dress with a chic pump in a soft nude or go for a shot of bold color.
LWD Suggestion: Black Halo’s Jackie O Belted Dress, $345.00, at ShopBop.com
Apple: Get busy in a white wrap style dress that cuts your natural curves and bares your enviable bustline. Choose structured fabrics that will hold you in and then get playful with funky earrings and a sky-high summer sandal. The added height will help play down your curves and show off your gorgeous gams.
LWD Suggestion: DKNY’s Weightless Stretch Faux Wrap Dress, $345.00, at SaksFifthAvenue.com
Boyish: Your boxy frame needs a feminine touch. Choose a floaty white dress with soft ruffles for contrast or a high-necked halter style that will play up your toned shoulders and arms. Asymmetrical necklines and hemlines break up the boxiness and a cool waist belt is still your best weapon to create shape where you may be lacking.
LWD Suggestion: Suzi Chin Maggy Boutique’s One Shoulder Jersey Dress, $158.00, at Nordstrom.com
Petite: Keep it short and sweet; try a modest white mini that’s all about your legs. Since prints tend to overwhelm your frame, go for texture instead. Your accessories should always be minimal and be sure you show off some skin at the décolleté, hemline and forearm. This will make you look longer and younger to boot!
LWD Suggestion: J.Crew’s Cotton taffeta Samantha Dress, $215.00, at JCrew.com
Tall: You can go for broke, lucky you…Do I see a gauzy white maxi dress in your future? Try a classic tank style or super trendy 70s-inspired halter and wear it with a leather cage sandal and some bold beads. More is more on your desirable lanky frame.
LWD Suggestion: Banana Republic’s Eyelet Maxi Dress, $150.00, at BananaRepublic.com
