For over a decade, Rebecca Taylor has been my go-to designer whenever I’m looking for something fresh, modern and perfectly girly. I fell in love with the label when I was working as a personal shopper at Fred Segal in Los Angeles, and I continue to covet her collection season after season.
Her dresses are incredibly flattering on all body shapes, her prints are feminine without being fussy and her Bohemian tops are always a sure thing especially when teamed with your favorite pair of jeans (for those days when you just want to throw on an outfit without thinking and look chic). It’s safe to assume you’ll always find a few pieces from Rebecca in almost every one of my client’s closets—no matter their size or shape—because they just work.
As we plunge, heels first, into my favorite shopping season (Fall!), I thought it would be fun to learn a little more about Rebecca Taylor and tap her for some great tips on what to wear this fall. Here are her style suggestions—enjoy!
The Look of the Season
Fall 2011 is inspired by dreamy illusive paintings, blurred images and sparkling lights, conjuring images of dimly lit nights in the chic Parisian night clubs of the 70’s. Dresses in luscious prints revealed beneath rich, smokey colored shearlings, found beading and lace patched over delicate printed dresses, lace appliqués on silk tees under shimmering lurex sweaters, cocooning from the cold and ready to set forth on adventures in the city.
Seasonal Must Haves
For fall, every girl should have a Rebecca Taylor faux-fur leopard coat. Our knits are amazing this season, and cobalt blue is a big trend color. We’re known for our feminine prints so you can’t go wrong with a printed blouse, pant or ladylike dress and I’m loving a mid-heel boot from Chloe!
Fall Dressing Your Body
Petite girls look great in body-hugging minis as they elongate their legs and show off their slender shape.
Curvy and Pear shapes look great in midi dresses or skirts with cinched waists as it accentuates their waist.
A great look for a boxy or athletic type is a cut-away shoulder top and knee-length fitted skirt. This shows off the arms and legs while hiding any potential problem areas.
