There are truly endless ways you can level up your skincare. From the plethora of skin products to tools to treatments- you can easily spend thousands of dollars just trying out new things. And one thing that has definitely started to gain popularity in the beauty world is dry brushing.

What exactly is dry brushing, you ask?

Well, it’s pretty much exactly what it sounds like.

Dry brushing is a way to gently exfoliate your skin with a firm-bristled brush. Dry brushing has been around for quite some time as it used to be popular in ancient healing practices. Dry brushing is popular once again, but this time it’s used in the beauty world. Dry brushing can help to get rid of dry skin, restore firmness, and stimulate blood flow. But how exactly do you dry brush your face?

  1. Wash your face

It sounds like a given, but it’s important not to skip this step. Just like with any skincare treatments, you want to start on a clean surface. Wash your face before doing anything.

  1. Start at the chin

With dry brushing, it’s important to brush in an upward motion. You should brush away from the heart, to stimulate circulation, and brush from your chin to your hairline on one side and then the other side. The strokes should be gentle.

  1. Don’t forget the neck

Your neck is often the first part of your body to show aging, so it’s important never to forget the neck when it comes to skincare. Gently dry brush in the same upward motions from your chest to your neck, to the bottom of your chin.

  1. Use oil or serum

Once you finish with the actual dry brushing, you must apply an oil or serum. You just spent all that time exfoliating your skin and opening up your pores. Now you want to moisturize. That way, your skin will be left looking soft and dewy.

  1. Clean your brush

If you’re continuously using something on your face, it needs to be washed. Wash your dry brush at least once a week with warm water and non-toxic soap. Let it air dry, and voila, you have a super clean dry brush that’s good as new.
