Demi Lovato’s life has been moving along nicely, thanks for asking. She went on a world tour, started a charity, and her rendition of “Let It Go” from Frozen has over 297 million views on YouTube. Somewhere in between cities, Lovato found the time to develop the skincare line DEVONNE by Demi.

Unlike other celebrity-helmed brands that have befallen the reckoning that is the Celebrity Beauty Challenge, DEVONNE by Demi feels lovingly (guardedly?) considered. It arrives complete with a comprehensive information packet. It has a Pinterest and a Google Plus. It’s purple, like Demi’s hair. And like its star’s “Strength” tattoo, it hints at A Past.DEVONNE by Demi has notes of willow bark, lemon peel, sunflower, apple, licorice – straight out of (I’m sorry to say) the wonderland of Selena Gomez’s “Come and Get It” video. Enter the forest of Selena Gomez Demi Lovato’s mind with a Deep Facial Cleanser, Hydrating Radiance Mist, and 3-in-1 Moisturizing Primer. The 3-step morning & night kit is meant to usher Demi fans from “pimples to wrinkles” for the price of $29.95.The theme of the Deep Facial Cleanser is lemon. It also contains coconut, apple, willow bark, wakame and reishi mushroom. It’s sulfate-free! I use prescription or Cetaphil cleanser, so I was wary about this grocery store of a facewash. I didn’t break out or anything, but I’ll go back to my regular cleanser.

The theme of the Hydrating Radiance Mist is “botanical extracts” and also “wonderful product.”  I mist myself every hour, on the hour. I’ve misted everyone in my life over the past week. It smells great and it feels like you washed your face, hands-free, six times in the middle of a workday. Get the mist. You will love the mist. The theme of the 3-in-1 Moisturizing Primer is Apple, Rosemary, and Sunflower (3-in-1!). There’s more apple extract here, plus rice bran, rice exfoliants, and cucumber. Apply under your makeup, avoiding your T-Zone if you have oily skin. Your skin will be moisturized and ready for a day’s worth of makeup.DEVONNE by Demi and its comprehensive website are trying, but I don’t mind. Same goes for Demi. I’m fine with a little effort it means I can feel primed and misted for $29.95. Plus, try tracking down information about any of the One Direction beauty brands. The boys don’t give a shit and it shows. Demi, well, who knows. She’s probably trying. Someone is making her try.If none of this appeals to you, there’s also Secret Color, her line of patent-pending hair extensions.
