There are two types of permanent brow makeup, but both are not suitable for everyone. Depending on the brows you’re starting with, your skin type, and even the cost, will determine which you choose.

Brows have become a staple in beauty routines around the globe. But, for some people, filling them in daily can be annoying. Having such a procedure can be game-changing for those with light brows, thin brows, or scarred brows.

But, how do you know which to pick? What is the difference between microblading and powder brows?

Microblading
Microblading is a manual technique that creates ultrafine strokes to replicate the look of natural brow hairs. This method is best for those with drier skin. The technician will work with you to find the right color and shape based on how your brows look now and your bone structure.

The procedure itself can take anywhere from one to two hours. Most people describe the sensation as cat scratches but not exactly painful. And many technicians will numb the area beforehand to make their clients even more comfortable.

Best of all, microblading should last one to two years will proper aftercare.

You may want the look of microbladed brows, but a licensed technician will discuss your options with you. You may not be a candidate for them, and a legitimate studio will not perform the procedure unless you are.

The healing process is odd. For the first few days, the brows will look extremely dark and then will scab over before healing and revealing the look you desire after about a week.

Powder Brows
Powder brows, also described as ombre brows, are a bit of a newer technique than microblading, but it is a much more gentle and longer-lasting method. While microblading mimics the look of hairs and makes it look like your natural brows are full, powder brows are softer. This offers an airbrushed look. If you had filled your brows in with powder, this is the look powder brows will give.

There are no hair strokes. Powder brows provide a natural and light makeup look and works for all skin types. Again, the technician will work with you to find the perfect color and shape.

At first, the look may appear too angular, sharp, or outlined for your taste, but the initial color will fade over about five days and look much softer and more subtle. Powder brows last anywhere from three to five years, making it ideal for anyone who is low maintenance.

Combination Brows
If you are eligible, you can get a mix of both procedures. This will give you dimension and depth. The microblading will give you the look of natural brow hairs, while the soft airbrushing will offer a fuller appearance that beautifully frames the face.

This procedure will be the most expensive because it is using two different tools and techniques and takes longer to achieve

If you are still unsure which brow procedure is right for you, speak to a licensed technician with good reviews and experience. You must choose a highly recommended studio with the proper licensing and training. A trained technician will work with you to achieve the look you desire and the method that will last the longest and look best on you.

Permanent brows, which are semipermanent if you’re being finicky, are a great way to save time and boost your confidence whether you’ve over-plucked, lost brows hairs due to hormones, aging, or chemotherapy. It is shocking just how impactful full brows can be on your self-esteem.
