Once the temps drop and the air gets cold and dry, I’m always looking for ways to add extra hydration to my hair that won’t weigh it down. With very fine hair that tends to get oily super fast, I take special care to apply conditioner strategically just from my ears, down. Any further up, and I’ll have noticeable oiliness by dinnertime. Which is why I was pumped to try this gel conditioner that’s meant to condition and detangle without adding any flatness-inducing weight.

Product: Redken Diamond Oil High Shine Shampoo & Conditioner

Price: $18 for the shampoo, $19 for the conditioner

We Think:

How It Looks, How It Feels: Gold and glittery! You won’t have noticeable glitter in your hair after (don’t worry), but that’s what gives your locks a subtle reflective quality and extra shine. Redken’s shampoo looks like regular shampoo, but their conditioner in a gel form was surprising to me.

How to Use It: Shampoo as normal. When you get to the conditioning, feel free to apply on every inch of your hair. Obviously concentrate on the lengths and ends, but you don’t have to fear putting this conditioner on or near your scalp.

Results: I have to admit, the gel felt a little strange at first. I didn’t know if I had enough product in my hair, since I’m used to feeling the thick, creamy textures of regular conditioner. But after several uses, I learned that not feeling like much in my palm is a good thing. And that’s exactly how it feels in my hair — lightweight and almost nonexistant. I apply Redken Diamond Oil High Shine Conditioner freely all through my hair, and can skip a day washing, which isn’t always the case for me.

Disclosure: I received the Redken Diamond Oil High Shine Shampoo & Conditioner as a sample.
