Finding the perfect mascara is a journey that has no end. Beauty brands are constantly releasing new mascaras, and between that and the many, many different types of mascara, we’re left having no clue what to choose. And then there’s regular mascara, waterproof, and water-resistant. But does anyone own all three options? You know, just in case you’re planning on crying one day. And what exactly is the difference between waterproof and water-resistant mascara?

If wearing mascara that can withhold water is your thing, you should decide if waterproof or water-resistant mascara is better for you. The main difference in the two formulas is how much exposure to water that your mascara can handle. If you accidentally get pushed into a pool wearing water-resistant mascara, you better get out as soon as possible. It’s going to leak, and you’re probably going to end up looking like a raccoon. However, if you’re wearing waterproof mascara, you’ll be okay.

Waterproof mascara also tends to be more durable than regular or water-resistant mascara. If you have eyelashes that don’t tend to curl, applying waterproof mascara will give it more of a hold and will keep that curl lasting for longer.

However, you probably should not use waterproof mascara every day. Waterproof mascara is harder to get off, so you have to use the right eye makeup remover. And if you’re someone who tends to fall asleep without taking their makeup off, waterproof mascara might not be for you.

The decision between regular, waterproof, and water-resistant mascara is entirely up to you! But remember- if you’re planning on wearing a little bit of mascara to a day at the beach, opt for waterproof. You’ll thank us later.
