Just in time for Halloween comes an update on the creepiest, kookiest, most mysterious and spooky collection of weirdly lovable relatives ever: The Addams Family. The ‘60s cult favorite TV show was followed up by a 1991 big-screen version, giving several generations of fans the opportunity to find themselves entangled in the web of the oddly sweet clan. Some cast members were household names before they assumed their ghoulish Addams guises. Others became breakout stars later. Here’s the low-down on what’s been going on with The Addams Family.

Anjelica Huston as Morticia Addams

Recognition as 1985’s best supporting actress for Prizzi’s Honor made Anjelica Huston the first-ever third-generation Oscar winner. The granddaughter of Academy Award recipients Walter Huston and daughter of John Huston was already firmly established in Hollywood when she took on the role of the Addams matriarch Morticia.

Fast forward to 2018 finds Huston’s most recent role playing sharp-tongued Broadway producer Eileen Rand in another cult favorite, NBC’s drama series Smash. After appearing in 1990’s The Witches and in 1998’s Ever After, she expanded her career to directing Bastard Out of CarolinaAgnes Browne, and Riding the Bus With My Sister.

Raúl Juliá as Gomez Addams

Raúl Juliá was a rising star when a stoke claimed his life at the age of 54. His performance as Brazilian activist Chico Mendes in HBO’s The Burning Season earned him a posthumous Golden Globe and Emmy. The Puerto Rican actor was acclaimed for his work on the stage, earning four Tony Award nominations over the course of his career. He reprised his Addams Family role in 1993’s sequel, Addams Family Values and starred the next year in Street Fighter, an adaptation of the popular video game franchise.

Christina Ricci as Wednesday Addams

Ricci made the transition from spooky Addams offspring into one of the most popular indie film actresses of her generation. Some of her credits include Tim Burton’s Sleepy HollowMonster, and the rom-com/fairy tale Penelope. She continues in one of the most spectacular careers among the Addams Family cast members. She starred in The Lizzie Borden Chronicles and as Zelda Fitzgerald in Z: The Beginning of Everything. Ricci has a son with James Heerdegen, a dolly grip she married after meeting on the set of the short-lived ABC drama Pan Am.

Christopher Lloyd as Uncle Fester

Lloyd started his rise to fame earning a pair of Emmys for his role as a supporting actor in the TV comedy series Taxi. Perhaps his most unforgettable contribution to pop culture was playing Doc Brown in the move Back to the Future. Both star turns came before he assumed the role of Uncle Fester in The Addams Family.

His most recent cameo appearance landed him on Roseanne in early 2018. Among his more notable credits in a career that has spanned film to television to theater are Who Framed Roger RabbitClue, and Star Trek III: The Search For Spock.
