The genes you get from your parents are the ones you’re stuck with for life, but an exciting field called epigenetics is uncovering ways that you can affect how those genes work by manipulating outside factors. Diet is one of them. Studies have shown that a healthy diet that includes, for example, soy, can alter gene expression in a way that decreases cancer risk. Some good foods to put in rotation for gene-control are broccoli, berries, salmon, curry, ginger and garlic.
