When you think back to elementary school, you think of hopscotch and Barbie dolls—not dieting. Sadly, that’s not the case anymore. A new study from The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute reports that 40 percent (nearly half) of girls between the ages of 9 and 10 have already tried to lose weight in some way. No matter the reason—social pressure, poor diet, whatever it may be—initiatives to get kids moving and eating healthier has never been more important. It’s all about baby steps: Healthy, balanced meals and staying active with regular exercise.
