If you’re looking to reboot your system, you may need to put a hold on your social life – at least for a month. According to a recent study, abstaining from alcohol for a month can allow your liver enough time to heal, as well as lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Researchers took liver scans and blood samples from 102 relatively healthy middle-aged men and women, in addition to having participants fill out an in-depth questionnaire prior to the study. After a month of going sans alcohol, they found that liver stiffness had been reduced by 12.5 percent and their insulin levels (which is a diabetes indicator) dropped by 28 percent! A side bonus to health perks: participants found they were sleeping more soundly and they shed some extra pounds!
