Obese people visit the doc more often than regular smokers, according to a new study from Concordia University. The researchers calculated that without obesity, doctor visits would decrease by 10 percent. Without type 2 diabetes, visits might decrease even further.

To get to a healthy weight, try planning out five small meals a day instead of three big ones, practice portion control, find exercise you enjoy and eat less sugar. Your waistline won’t be the only thing to benefit—you might find yourself with fewer medical bills, too.
