The Dangers of Dialing While Driving

Using video technology and sensors in the cars of 150 volunteers, researchers found that drivers spend a tenth of their time looking anywhere but straight, taking their eyes off the road to do things like eat, reach for their phones or text. Though just talking on the phone didn’t increase risk, adults who dialed while driving were more than twice as likely to crash or have a near miss. For new drivers, the likelihood of an accident was eight times higher.
