Some of us are lucky enough to be born with naturally glowing skin. The rest of us have to work for it. One of the most prevalent methods to achieve that glow is using great skincare products. While great products work, your first step to beautiful, clear skin should be the food you consume.

Food not only offers immense benefits for your belly, but it also has a direct impact on how healthy your skin is. The following foods are a lot cheaper than some of the most effective skincare products, and a lot more realistic to incorporate in your daily routine.

Sweet potatoes
They are an excellent source of beta-carotene, a nutrient commonly found in plants. An additional benefit of consuming sweet potatoes is having extra beta-carotene that acts as a sunblock. This helps prevent wrinkles, dry skin, sunburn, and cell death.

Tomatoes
Vitamin C is crucial to skin cells, and tomatoes are a fantastic way to get that into your skin. Tomatoes also contain major carotenoids making them perfect for the maintenance of healthy glowing skin.

Green tea
Looking to protect your skin from aging? Green tea, high in catechins, can help you achieve just that while improving the overall health of your skin at the same time. When drinking your green tea, avoid adding milk because this could counter the benefits the tea has to offer.

Yellow or Red bell peppers
Another excellent source of beta-carotene. The consumption of either of these peppers helps your body create collagen, which helps your skin stay firm and strong.

Red wine
You know what they say about red wine! Grapes contain a significant amount of resveratrol, which helps reduce the effects of aging. While it may be beneficial to the body, this should simply be a substitution if you’re drinking alcohol. Less than 5 oz is enough for you to get the benefits. Any more, and you’ll be doing more harm than good!

Other helpful foods may include the consumption of dark chocolate, broccoli, fatty fish, and certain nuts.
