As unfortunate and annoying as they are, there are ways you can break through a weight loss plateau and continue your journey to your goal weight. Here are a few ways:
Eat more fiber
Eating high-fiber foods have been found to help people lose weight, so if you’re noticing your weight is plateauing, it could very well be from a lack of fiber. Aim for at least 30g of fiber a day and try eating foods like oatmeal, berries, and beans.
Eat enough protein
Protein is super important overall, but even more so if you’re trying to lose weight. Protein helps speed up your metabolic rate, so make sure that every meal you’re eating has a good source of protein, whether it’s meat or plant-based.
Not eating will only hurt your weight loss journey. And it will take a significant toll on you physically and mentally. Skipping meals slows down your metabolism, so make sure you’re getting in your healthy nutrients every day.
Drink water before you eat
Are you hungry, or are you thirsty? Are you hungry, or are you just bored? Water will help you figure it out. Drinking a glass of water before you eat can help you stay full, eat less, and keep you hydrated throughout the day.
Change up your workouts
Your weight loss plateau might result from not switching up your workouts. There’s spin class, Zumba, yoga, and HIIT- just to name a few. Changing up your workouts ensures your muscles don’t get too familiar with the same movements.
To break through a weight loss plateau, give interval training a try. Interval training is a great way to burn a lot of calories and make you sweat. It is just alternating between high-intensity workouts with rest periods.
Exercise with a friend
Your weight loss plateau might be from a lack of motivation, after all. Finding a friend to get on a weight loss journey can help you when you find yourself falling off track or losing motivation- plus, it’s always more fun to have a friend with you at the gym!
Eat less salt
Yes, salt is great- in moderation. The plateau on the scale might actually be from water weight, a result of consuming too much salt. The more salt you eat, the more likely you are to bloat with water retention.
